Circular pluggable installations experience a first

Isolectra and Technische Unie recently and for the first time in the Netherlands harvested pluggable GST18® materials from a project for reuse. The partner companies are thus taking an important step en route to a circular economy by 2050.

To enable the circular economy, our government aims to reduce primary abiotic raw materials by 50% by 2030. Isolectra is contributing to this by analysing and optimising the life cycle of its products in line with the R-ladder. But also by actively promoting pluggable installation. “Pluggable installation is also detachable installation”, says Key Account Manager Yannick Boertje. “It is easy to make any necessary modifications, which significantly extends the lifespan of the installations. At the end of a building’s life or in case of major changes, the pluggable technologies can also be dismantled and – after extensive testing and certification – reused elsewhere.”

That these are not empty promises was recently proved by Isolectra in Eindhoven, where surplus Wieland GST18® cables were carefully dismantled and collected. Technische Unie then transported the materials by electric truck to Isolectra, where the cables will be meticulously tested and – where sound – re-certified. Subsequently, Technische Unie will offer the cables again to its customers under a circular label.

For Technische Unie, the re-used GST18® cables are a great addition to its circular programme, explains Senior Account Manager Gijs van Seggelen. “Circularity is becoming increasingly important in project approvals. Installers who are open to this definitely have an edge.
