Wieland GST®: Sustainable and Innovative Solutions for Plug & Play Installations

Wieland GST®: Innovation and Sustainability in Plug & Play
Isolectra has been working with Wieland for over 50 years. This collaboration began in 1973 and has evolved into a deep and long-standing partnership. What sets Isolectra apart is its close involvement in product development, product management, and even production. Together with Wieland, they have developed a range of innovative solutions, including the GST® product line. This line not only offers efficiency and flexibility, but also plays a key role in making electrical installations more sustainable.
The GST product line, with GST18® as its most well-known model, is the most widely used plug & play installation system worldwide. It uses ready-to-use components that simply click together, eliminating the need for stripping, cutting, and manual assembly. This results in significant time and cost savings and minimizes errors during installation. Moreover, the materials are reusable, which aligns perfectly with the principles of sustainable construction, an increasingly important priority.
From Lighting to Full Building Installations
Wieland developed plug & play technology in the 1970s for specific applications such as kitchen lighting and desk installations. However, Isolectra saw its broader potential and began applying the technology to full building installations in the 1990s. This proved to be a great success, with pioneering projects such as The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the KPN headquarters in The Hague. Today, GST18® is used across various sectors, including offices, schools, hospitals, retail environments, and even residential buildings.
In addition to GST18®, the product line also includes GST15®, a more compact model that is ideal for smaller spaces, such as furniture, narrow ducts, or for connecting compact LED lighting or DALI control systems. Both systems share the same build quality, featuring solid brass contacts for reliable connections and long service life.
The Benefits of Plug & Play Installations
Customers respond enthusiastically to the GST® product line thanks to its many advantages. The system makes installations faster and easier, while also offering flexibility and reusability. Installers and end users benefit from Isolectra’s tailored logistics options. For example, products can be delivered pre-kitted per room or construction phase, an efficient solution, especially for large-scale projects such as hotels.
Beyond these practical benefits, the GST® product line stands out for its sustainability. The Class 1 environmental declaration for new materials, combined with the ability to reuse components and meet circular construction goals, makes the system an excellent choice for environmentally conscious building projects.
Innovations for the Future
Isolectra and Wieland continue to innovate to future-proof their systems. A key focus is integration with BIM systems, where new software tools such as gesisPLAN® play a crucial role. In addition, flat cable systems are being further developed. These cables not only offer greater flexibility, but also enable the distribution of various signals and power throughout buildings, from lighting and power distribution in offices and retail spaces to EV charging systems in parking garages.
Through these ongoing innovations, Isolectra is committed to providing customers with solutions that not only meet today’s requirements, but are also ready for tomorrow’s challenges.
